Opera 401

Opera 401 - Tosca Seminar

Opera 401 is a one hour informance designed to highlight aspects of a particular opera and increase your enjoyment of an actual performance of that opera.

The Tosca seminar will be held:

City Hall Auditorium
250 N. 5th St.
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
12 noon - 1pm

Please note the seminar has been moved to Tuesday due to a scheduling conflict at the City Hall auditorium.

Puccini's Tosca is a love story thwarted by evil in the form of an occupying government. It contains the aria Recondita Armonia in which Cavarodossi tells us he loves Floria Tosca even while he is inspired by the the beauty of another woman. The seminar will include video excerpts from a filmed performance of Tosca done on-site in Rome at the actual locations reference in the libretto. The exerpts preserve the original setting in French occupied Rome under Napoleon (1808-1813). It is intended as a supplement to the Dinner & an Opera event scheduled for July 11 and to enhance your enjoyment of the live High Desert Opera performance of Tosca at the Avalon Theater on July 26th. The Avalon Theater performance will use an updated English libretto that places the story in 1944 when the German Army occupies Rome. Being able to contrast these two settings of the opera is certain to enhance your understanding and enjoyment of it.

To register to attend, call Ed Arnos @245-4914 or email opera101@bresnan.net with your name, phone number, and the number of seats requested.. A $10 donation is requested but not required.

Opera 401 is offered as a community outreach by High Desert Opera, Working to Bring Grand Opera to Grand Junction.
