High Desert Opera will produce Cole Porter's "Kiss Me, Kate" this winter at Robinson Theatre at CMU in Grand Junction, CO.

There are expected to be 4 performances of the show.

Story Synopsis

The musical, written by Samuel and Bella Spewack, follows the story of the production of a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew and the conflict on and off-stage between Fred Graham, the show's director, producer, and star, and his leading lady, his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi.

Adding to the dynamic mix on set is a secondary romance concerning another actress and her gambler boyfriend, who is business with gangsters.

"Kiss Me, Kate" was the first show that Cole Porter wrote in which the music and lyrics were firmly connected to the script. he show ran for over 1,000 performances on Broadway.

If you want to audition for a principal role in this production, please contact the artistic director James Werner at 970-644-2724 to arrange a time slot between 1 and 3 pm.

  • Bring sheet music for ANY song that you would like to sing.

  • A pianist will be provided.

  • Please bring a brief resumé of your theatre experience.
